In the foreword to Derek’s biography Pastor John Hagee describes Derek Prince as a man, who was, in every fibre of his being, a servant of God. His brilliant teaching and anointed ministry, says Hagee, made Derek Prince an apostle to the nations of the world.
There is no doubt that Derek was a much loved and respected Bible teacher whose ministry has impacted millions of lives. And, he was also a pastor and a spiritual mentor. He often prayed for his friends and wrote letters of encouragement to them when they faced difficult times.
This caring, pastoral side of Derek’s ministry is evident in the numerous resources he produced that focus on providing biblical answers to everyday questions about fear and anxiety, coping with illness and bereavement, money, relationships, etc.
Over the years we have encouraged pastors, individuals and churches to make use of these pastoral resources and we love hearing from people who are using Derek’s teaching to mentor and encourage their friends, colleagues or family members.
In this edition of our Invest in People newsletter we would like to share with you a few heart-warming stories of how individuals, prisoners and ministry leaders are using Derek’s teaching to encourage others to go deeper and higher with God in these challenging times.
A few weeks ago we received a phone call from a cheerful young man called Tope Akinola who was asking for 200 copies of Derek’s book ‘God’s Plan For Your Money’ My mother’s birthday is coming up soon, said Tope, and we have agreed that we would like to give a copy of ‘God’s Plan For Your Money’ to all the guests coming to the party. Handling finances God’s way is an area very dear to my heart, Tope continued. I have been extremely blessed by this book and I just couldn’t keep it to myself! This teaching is very timely now when some of my friends are struggling with their giving or becoming unemployed.
But, what did the party guests think of the unusual gifts they received? – Well, most of them were apparently delighted.
My relatives, said Tope, thought that ‘God’s Plan For Your Money’ was such an eye opener! Some commented that they now realised the benefits of giving rather than giving without understanding. Others, realised that they need to pray for their finances and the way they make their giving and spending decisions.
